AFC disciplinary committee sanctions Sepahan.

(AFC News) Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Disciplinary Committee has decided to award the AFC Champions League quarter-final first leg to Qatar’s Al Sadd against Iran’s Sepahan as a 3-0 forfeit win after Sepahan were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player. Earlier, Sepahan had won the first leg played on 14 September, 2011, 1-0 (AFC disciplinary committee sanctions Sepahan..The committee adjudged that Rahman Ahmadi of Sepahan should have served a suspension in the match after receiving two yellow cards during the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2011 when he played for Piroozi of Iran.

He received the first caution against Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia and then another one against Al Wahda of UAE (Piroozi’s last match in the tournament) before he moved to Sepahan during the summer window.

According to Article 69, par a. of the AFC Champions League Competition Regulations 2011 and Articles 17 par. 3 and 38 par. 1 and 4 of the AFC Disciplinary Code, Ahmadi’s suspension should have been served in the quarter-final first leg.

Further to the match being awarded 3-0 to Al Sadd, the AFC Disciplinary Committee also imposed a USD 1000 fine on Sepahan and ordered that the player will serve the suspension in the return leg against Al Sadd.

Sepahan have the right to appeal within three days of notification of the decision. The return leg of the quarter-final will take place at Al Sadd Stadium on September 28, 2011.
