ICC News Dec 12, 2011: : Pakistan eased to an innings and 184-run victory over Bangladesh on day four of the first Test in Chittagong. The tourists picked up the remaining second-innings wickets inside an hour of the middle session to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series.
Resuming on 134-4, Bangladesh started the day needing another 325 to make their opponent bat again. Nazimuddin (78) and Shakib Al Hasan (51) advanced their fifth-wicket stand to 78 before the latter fell soon after reaching his half-century.
The left-hander was trapped on his crease and adjudged lbw to Abdur Rehman – giving the spinner his 50th Test wicket.
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim (49) then helped Nazimuddin put on 47 for the sixth-wicket in quick time. Nazimuddin appeared well set to achieve a maiden hundred but then got out to a rash stroke when he skied Rehman to mid-off.
Mahmudullah went soon after without scoring – bowled by Saeed Ajmal’s doosra – as the batting team went into lunch at 222-7. With Rubel Hossain unable to bat due to a shoulder problem, there were just two more wickets for Pakistan to take after the resumption.
Mushfiqur narrowly missed out on his half-century when he played back to Rehman and was hit low on his pads in front of middle stump.
Elias Sunny (20 not out) and Shahadat Hossain (21) cheered the crowd with a few defiant boundaries until Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq brought back quick bowler Aizaz Cheema to finish off proceedings. Cheema needed just three balls with the new ball to have Hossain caught at cover to complete a comprehensive victory. Rehman was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers with 4-88.
The second, and final, Test begins at Dhaka on Saturday (December 17).
