London, June 07, 2013: ICC to launch photographic exhibition, The International Cricket Council (ICC), together with Getty Images Sport, is giving cricket fans the chance to relive iconic moments from ICC events from around the world with the opening of “The ICC Collection” at the Getty Images Gallery, London.
The exhibition, showcasing 50 iconic photographic images, opens on Monday, 10 June, and will run until Saturday, 29 June and is free for the public to enter.
The collection includes a number of unusual, behind the scenes photographs of cricketers during ICC events dating back to 1975, and features legends of the game such as Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Ian Botham, as well as modern day greats such as Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne.
Many of the images highlight the evolution of cricket photography from flash-gun-and-dark-room to digital transmission from the boundary edge, but the images all portray the same variety of euphoria, excitement, pride, despair and cricketing agility.
The exhibition is being shown alongside the ICC’s Champions Trophy tournament, which is being hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The event is being played from 6 to 23 June across London, Cardiff and Birmingham and features the top eight teams in ODI cricket.
ICC Chief Executive, David Richardson, said of the new exhibition: “The ICC, in its various forms, has been staging global cricket events since 1975 when the first men’s Cricket World Cup was held.
“This exhibition, with the help of Getty Images Sport, an organisation we have partnered with for over a decade, aptly showcases the iconic personalities as well as the history and development of the global game through the various ICC tournaments held around the world.
“The imagery on display is a testament to the wonderful photographers that Getty Images Sport has sent to cover ICC events over many years.
Getty Images’ Senior Vice President Editorial Imagery Adrian Murrell added: “We’re delighted to be hosting the first showing of The ICC Collection at the Getty Images Gallery in London. Getty Images Sport has been working in cricket for many years and the exhibition is the latest example of our proud association with the International Cricket Council.
“We hope that many people will visit the exhibition in London and later when it potentially travels around the world.”
ECB Chief Executive, David Collier said: “I am thrilled that the first showing of The ICC Collection will be in London during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
“It is a big summer of cricket in England and Wales with the ICC Champions Trophy and The Ashes, and the exhibition will allow cricket fans and cricket novices a unique opportunity to view some of the best images from the many ICC events that have taken place around the world.”
