ICC launches ICC WT20Q UAE 2013

Dubai, Nov 11, 2013: The International Cricket Council today announced it has partnered with the GEMS Education Society as part of an in-school programme ahead of the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q).

The ICC and the ICC Academy are teaming up to give children based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) an introduction to the upcoming event, being held from 15 to 30 November, as well as expert coaching sessions to help develop their cricketing skills.

The programme will visit 14 schools across the three Emirates where the tournament is being played – Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah – and will work with pupils that are both beginners and regular players of the game of cricket.

The ICC’s Global Development Manager, Tim Anderson, attended the launch event held at Bradenton Preparatory Academy in Dubai Sports City, bringing with him the ICC WT20Q UAE 2013 trophy with for the pupils to see.

Picture2Anderson, who presented Bradenton’s Head of School, Dr Connie Weiner, with a commemorative bat signed by all 16 captains competing in the ICC WT20Q UAE 2013, commented: “It’s fantastic that the GEMS Education Society has embraced the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 and has partnered with the ICC and the ICC Academy to help grow the game of cricket in the region.

“I’m sure all of the children involved in both the assemblies and the coaching clinics will now avidly be attending and following the upcoming tournament, and I’m confident we’ll be finding some future stars of the game amongst the pupils here in the UAE.”

Dr. Weiner added, “We are grateful to the ICC for providing what was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about the upcoming tournament and the game of cricket itself.

“We have some very passionate young cricketers at the school, who will have no doubt benefited from the expert tips and advice of the ICC Academy coaches. Hopefully one day we will see some of our children grow up to be the cricketing stars of the future!”
