Chinese President Xi Jingping declares FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 open

Beijing, August 30, 2019: The official Opening Ceremony of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 presented a beautiful show, with a succession of eyecatching performances at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre announcing the start of FIBA’s flagship event (Chinese President Xi Jingping ).

The Ceremony, organized by the General Administration of Sport of China and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, took place in the iconic 2008 Beijing Olympic Games venue, the Water Cube.

The evening attended by President Xi Jingping of the People’s Republic of China,

President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, five national level Chinese Leaders, FIBA President Horacio Muratore, along with the newly elected FIBA President for 2019-2023 Hamane Niang,

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Executive Committee and Central Board Members, the delegates of the XXI FIBA Congress as well as representatives from the host cities.

The Ceremony commenced with children introducing the 32 teams participating in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, the largest number of teams to ever compete in a FIBA Basketball World Cup.

After speeches given by Gou Zhongwen, the President of China’s Local Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and FIBA President Horacio Muratore, Chinese President Xi Jingping declared the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 open.

Cultural and musical presentation performed by various artists which included traditional Chinese costumes and dance.

It highlighted by Chinese and international star Jackie Chan.

Yao Ming, President of the Chinese Basketball Association and FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Global Ambassador, carried the FIBA Basketball World Cup Naismith Trophy into the arena with eight children, representing the eight host cities with a final performance called “Cheer up Basketball. —- FIBA
