Sochi 2014 News: In November 2012 more than 300 representatives of leading international media, national Olympic and Paralympic committees and international sports federations will gather in Sochi to participate in the World Press Briefing Sochi 2012.
The World Press Briefing traditionally serves as a platform for planning the press operations during the Games and is held in all the host cities of all the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Around 2,800 media representatives are expected to be accredited at the Sochi Games.
As part of the World Press Briefing, the Games’ organizers will present services for journalists and some important Sochi 2014 technological innovations, including technical solutions for mobile phones and tablet computers.
At the same time there will also be published a paid services catalogue (the rate card) for mass media representatives, which will allow them to rent premises in the Main Media Centre as well as to reserve equipment and other services.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, marked:
“Year by year Sochi’s role as one of the world’s Olympic movement centers increases and holding the World Press Briefing can only act to further confirm this.
Representatives of the most reputable and high profile media will have the chance to evaluate on its merits the compact fitting of the Sochi venues which means that guests can travel from the Olympic park to the alpine skiing competitions venue in less than half an hour”.
In 2012 such high-profile events as “Generations for Peace” international camp, “Sochi-Yes!” festival, regular IOC Coordination Commission’s visits and the Sochi 2012 international investment forum will take place in Sochi.
The city is also set to host the “500 Days to Go” celebrations as well as the 6th “Peace and Sport” international forum that will take place outside Monaco for the first time in history.
The press accreditation for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi will open on 7th May 2012. A total of 2,800 journalists will be entitled to press accreditation – that is as many as in Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010. The quotas proportion for each particular country will be set by the IOC and the related information will also be specified on 7th May 2012.
