ICC CWC 2015 qualification, 4-day competition

Dubai, June 25, 2012: ICC CWC 2015, Six of the eight teams that are currently part of the Pepsi ICC WCL Championship and ICC Intercontinental Cup are turning their attention in the coming weeks to the longer formats of the game with the upcoming fourth round fixtures of the two tournaments.

Ireland is hosting Afghanistan at Clontarf in Dublin for its ODIs on Tuesday, 3 July and Thursday, 5 July, as part of the WCL Championship. The two sides will then face-off in an Intercontinental Cup fixture from 9 July.

Meanwhile, Scotland will play host to Canada at Uddingston for its ICC Intercontinental Cup fixture from 4 to 7 July, while the Pepsi ICC WCL Championship ODI matches are scheduled to be played in Edinburgh on 9 July and 11 July respectively. Later in the month, Netherlands will take on UAE in their ICC Intercontinental Cup match to be played in Deventer starting on 16 July. The two sides will then play each other in the Pepsi ICC WCL Championship on 21 July and 23 July in Rotterdam.

The current Pepsi ICC WCL Championship table is topped by ICC WT20Q UAE 2012 champions Ireland, who despite being on equal points with the UAE, has managed to edge into the top spot currently due a superior net run-rate in the competition. Afghanistan will be hoping to improve on its current ranking of fifth in the table after its matches in Dublin while Scotland will have the opportunity to usurp UAE should they perform well against bottom of the table Canada later next month.

Meanwhile, Netherlands will be looking to continue its recent run of good form in the English domestic leagues into the WCL Championship and beat UAE in its two fixtures and thus improve its position on the points table.

The Pepsi ICC WCL Championship, together with the ongoing global divisions of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL), is an extremely important event on the calendar of ICC Development Programme as it provides a dual pathway for all Associate and Affiliate Members to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to be staged in Australia and New Zealand.

The top two teams from the WCL Championship will automatically join ICC’s 10 Full Members in the ICC CWC 2015, while the bottom six teams in the WCL Championship will receive a second qualifying opportunity when they will lock horns for the remaining two places in the ICC CWC 2015 by competing in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ) in early 2014.
