IHF Congress postponed – New venue will be announced

Basel, May 7, 2015: The Congress of the International Handball Federation which was scheduled to take place in June in the Hungarian capital of Budapest has been postponed and a new host will be additionally announced. All Member Federations of the International Handball Federation have been informed accordingly through a circular letter on Thursday, 30 April 2015.

The reason for the postponement is the inability of 63 National Federations to obtain an entry visa for Hungary due to the fact that their countries do not have a Hungarian diplomatic representation. IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa had communication on the highest level with the Hungarian Government and in particular with H.E. Mr István Simicskó, Minister of State for Sports, in order to find a solution to the problem.

However, the state of Hungary and the Hungarian Handball Federation could guarantee visas upon arrival only to those delegates arriving to Budapest as their first point of entry into the Schengen area, i.e. the delegates concerned must arrive to Hungary from a non-Schengen country. For many of these delegates, unfortunately this was not possible.

The International Handball Federation will always strive to offer best possible conditions to all Member Federations and will always work on providing them with their right to participate in the IHF Congress. As under these conditions, this right cannot be fulfilled it has been decided to postpone the Congress. The new date as well as the organizer will be announced in due time. —- IHF
