Son becomes Asian Games Goodwill Ambassador

Incheon, Korea, Oct 4, 2013: The 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee has appointed rhythmic gymnast Son Yeonjae as a Goodwill Ambassador for the 2014 Asian Games. A ceremony was held at the Korea Press Center in Seoul on September 30 to commemorate the occasion.

Ms Son, 19, is one of the most popular sports stars in Korea and the most successful rhythmic gymnast the country has produced.

She was the Individual All-Around bronze medallist at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and gold medallist at the 2013 Asian Championships. She also placed fifth in the Individual All-Around event at both the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2013 World Championships.

Kim Young Soo, President of IAGOC, said: “Son Yeonjae is a rising and popular star in the world of rhythmic gymnastics. We hope that the 2014 Incheon Asian Games will also be well-promoted among the 4.5 billion Asians and become a successful Games.”

Ms Son added: “It is a great honour to be the Goodwill Ambassador for one of the biggest international sporting events to be held in Korea. I will do my best to represent the Games well and to perform my best in the competitions.” —- OCA
