Asian Cup 2015 preparations get a boost

Sydney, AFC News, Nov 16, 2011: The AFC Asian Cup 2015 preparations got a boost with the AFC Asian Cup Organising Committee Chairman His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah holding discussions with Football Federation Australia Chairman Frank Lowy and paying a visit to one of the main stadiums on Wednesday.

HRH Prince Abdullah, who’s also the AFC Vice-President, was briefed about the preparations for the flagship AFC tournament by FFA Chief Executive Ben Buckley before meeting Chairman Lowy. HRH Prince Abdullah later visited the Sydney FC Stadium.

“This was my first visit to Australia in relation to the AFC Asian Cup and I was impressed with the facilities they have. I would like to thank the FFA for their hospitality,” said the Chairman of the AFC Asian Cup 2015 Organising Committee.

“The Asian Cup is one of the most high profile tournaments around the world and AFC wants to make sure that we get everything right for the hosts, for the teams, and for the fans. AFC will extend its fullest cooperation and work closely with FFA to make the Australian edition a resounding success.”

After visiting Sydney FC Stadium, HRH Prince Abdullah said: “I am quite happy with what I saw. The AFC Competitions Department will of course decide on the right facilities needed for a successful tournament.” HRH Prince Ali also spoke about Australia’s sporting pedigree and how this would stand the AFC Asian Cup in good stead.

“Australia have a great record of hosting major international sports events. They have the expertise to ensure that the AFC Asian Cup sets a new benchmark when it comes to organisation.” —- AFC
