ICC Development Programme Annual Awards

Dubai, Feb 28, 2013: Cricket Scotland has taken the top prize of the Pepsi ICC Development Programme Annual Awards 2012, claiming the Best Overall Cricket Development Programme for the second time in three years. Cricket Kenya and the Maasai Cricket Warriors were awarded the Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Campaign for their outstanding activities and media coverage to promote cricket and raise awareness about HIV and female genital mutilation.

Monir Habibi, of the Iran Cricket Association, has been honoured with the Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedicated efforts to increase participation rates and educate umpires and scorers. Cricket Peru was awarded the Photo of the Year for its image of the celebrations of Peru’s Under 13 team, demonstrating the essence of cricket development in action.

Other winners this year include Vanuatu Cricket, which was awarded Best Spirit of Cricket Initiative for its Women’s Island Cricket Program, which engaged women in cricket while promoting healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (Royal Dutch Cricket Association) (KNCB) has been honoured with two awards – the Best Women’s Cricket Initiative and the Best Junior Participation Initiative for 2012. Gary Fray of the Bermuda Cricket Board received the Lifetime Service Award, in honour of his service to cricket development and administration in Bermuda over many decades.

This year’s judging panel featured current ICC President Alan Isaac, alongside previous ICC Presidents Malcolm Gray, Eshan Mani, David Morgan and Sharad Pawar, and John Stephenson of the MCC.

ICC Global Development Manager Tim Anderson said of this year’s awards:“It’s fantastic to see the winners of this year’s Pepsi ICC Development Programme Annual Awards again coming from across all five regions. The range of nominations and winners illustrates how many initiatives and people are contributing to the global development of cricket.

“On behalf of the ICC, I congratulate all the award winners, as well as the nominees who were not successful. We thank you for your commitment, passion and dedication to making cricket a bigger, better global game.”

Best Junior Participation Initiative – Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (Royal Dutch Cricket Association)

Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Programme – Maasai Cricket Warriors and Cricket Kenya

Best Spirit of Cricket Initiative – Vanuatu Cricket

All global winners will receive a US$2,000 cricket equipment grant to their national cricket body. —- ICC
