LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, June 15, 2012: Nicole Delaloye, Bereft, the FIG recently learned of the violent and tragic death at the age of 92 of Ms Susi Urzynicok (GER), FIG Honorary Member since 1976.
Susi Urzynicok spent years championing the development of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics worldwide. Her activity on the FIG Board largely contributed to the expansion of the discipline over the second half of the 20th century.
The International Gymnastics Community extends its heartfelt condolences to her spouse and family, and holds on to the inspiring memory of a devoted and competent colleague.
Nicole Delaloye no longer among us
LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, June 15, 2012: Devoted to and widely recognized by national and international Artistic Gymnastics, Nicole Delaloye-Maye succumbed to illness on June 12, 2012, at the age of 56.
A gymnast from her youth, she was swift to attract the attention of selectors, who promoted her to member of the national team. Swiss national champion in 1974, she participated in several world championships. After her time in active competition, Nicole Delaloye took a seat on the FIG international judges’ college and was selected, notably, for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta (USA).
At the national level, she played some of the most important roles in the development of gymnastics and the organisation of national and international events in Switzerland. For many years she was a recognized and appreciated leader as delegate for women’s gymnastics within the Swiss Gymnastics Federation. With a practical background in the field, Delaloye made a name for herself within the Swiss gymnastics community through her commitment and abilities.
In 1997, she was asked by Lausanne organisers of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships to run the competitions, a mandate which she completed with expertise and talent.
