PROGRAMME

Aim:

To introduce participants to the IOC’s Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) and enable participants to become familiar with the training manual, “Teaching Values: An Olympic Education Toolkit”, a resource tool for mainstreaming Olympic Values-based education.

By using the power of sport, young people can be equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to help them become productive, responsible citizens and active contributors to national, regional and global development processes.

Objectives:

Explore the challenges of integrating OVEP into the region and on country level:

Set OVEP strategic goals for the region and national level. Herein, the Continental Association can take on a leadership role to facilitate the further expansion of OVEP in the region vis-à-vis lending support in planning and implementation activities, providing budgetary resources for regional and country level activation, establish communications platform;

Identify priority areas and adaptation of issues on a local cultural and political context (e.g. education, gender equity, healthy lifestyles and relevant health care, respect for the environment, and employment creation);

Create appropriate mechanisms for implementation and coordination of OVEP Train the Trainers workshops and the sustainable development framework of OVEP to ensure continuity and longevity of the programme (e.g. establish clear timelines and reporting process, allocate sufficient financial and human resources to ensure running of programme on continental and country level, identification of strategic areas of cooperation and intervention, development of action plans);

Develop a web-based platform to facilitate social networking, build and sustain OVEP consortium and joint collaboration, enhance knowledge transfer and sharing of “good practice” initiatives from the region. The latter will enable the proper harmonisation of teaching methodology and replication of an existing and successful training model;

Ensure youth participation and empowerment at the implementation and decision-making process level.
