By Will Shand, Doha, Qatar, 25 April 2012: The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) have today announced a new agreement to work together ahead of the forthcoming 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, which takes place on 4th – 20th May in Finland and Sweden.
The agreement will see the IIHF and ICSS collaborate on all aspects of Risk Management and Crisis Communication for the tournament, which will feature the top 16 ice hockey teams from around the globe. Central to the project will be a joint review of the critical issues from previous IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships and ice hockey events, drawing on the experience of the ICSS team at a number of major sporting events, including previous FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Football Championships.
The IIHF and ICSS will also develop decision making processes and communication guidelines for the championships. Leading experts from the ICSS, including Helmut Spahn (Executive Director), Heinz Palme (Director of Business Development) and Rick Festorazzi (Director of Training), will attend the first week of the tournament to brief the IIHF management and Local Organizing Committees on how to use best practice to overcome crisis situations during the event.
