Poland Stamps Japanese Hopes

Men’s Team Matches: Poland Stamps, The first day had ended with the surprise victory of Portugal over Singapore. Second day of the LIEBHERR 2012 World Team Table Tennis Championships started with another surprise. In the Men’s Teams Group D, Poland emerged victorious against group favourite Japan, bronze medallist in 2010. This morning’s match saw Seiya Kishikawa lose to Robert Floras and Daniel Gorak. Japan did not include Jun Mizutani in the lineup, he was not selected by Yoshihito Miyazaki, the Japanese Coach.

Russia beat Croatia 3-2 to capture first place in Group D.

In Group A, the favourite teams remain at the top, with Defending Champion China and Hong Kong winning their respective matches 3-0.

In Group B, Silver Medallist Germany has taken a major step towards the Quarterfinals by winning three straight games.

Korea and Austria have two wins each and share the 1st place in Group C.

Women’s Team Matches:

In Group A of the Women’s Championship Division, China has two wins to their credit. So has Romania. They beat Hungary 3-2.

Defending World Champions Singapore is also not under pressure: they share first place in Group B with the Netherlands.

Tomorrow at 04.00pm, Japan and Germany, which both have three victories each, will compete in what should be an exciting match, as the winning team should logically qualify directly for the Quarterfinals.

Two Asian teams, Korea and Hong Kong, occupy the top spots in Group D.

Annual General Meeting Tomorrow

2012 ITTF Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Tuesday, 27 March 2012 at the “Goldsaal” of Westfalenhallen Convention Centre in Dortmund, within the framework of the 2012 LIEBHERR World Team Table Tennis Championships.
