Matias Paterlini receives two suspension points for ICC Code of Conduct breach

Singapore, Feb 24,  2012: Argentina all-rounder Matias Paterlini has received two suspension points for a Level 2 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s 146 runs defeat to Singapore at the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 (WCL Div. 5) in Singapore on Friday. Paterlini was charged with a Level 2 offence under article 2.2.1 of the code which relates to “using serious dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match”.

Paterlini’s two suspension points means the 34-year-old batsman will not be eligible to play in Argentina’s final game of the WCL Div. 5 tomorrow (Saturday) against Bahrain, and he will also miss his side’s next international match after the conclusion of the WCL Div. 5. Commenting on his decision, ICC Tournament Referee, Mr Graeme la Brooy said: “Mr Paterlini pleaded guilty to the charge, accepted the proposed sanction and apologised for his action. As such, under the provisions of the code, there was no requirement for a full hearing.

“I hope Mr Paterlini has learnt that there is no place for this kind of behaviour in international cricket on any level and thus, I felt it necessary to impose the two suspension point penalty upon him. Furthermore, I hope that Mr Paterlini will learn from this incident and pay more respect to all stakeholders of the game, especially the match officials.”

The charge was brought by on-field umpires Tony Hill of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and Narayanan Sivan of Malaysia, as well as third umpire Mithilesh Mishra of Singapore.

All Level 2 breaches at an ICC Development event carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of up to two suspension points, with one suspension point being equivalent to one International Match.
