Seeds announced for Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group

Seeds announced, The ITF has announced the seeds for the Draw for the 2012 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group and World Group II play-offs. The Draw will take place on Tuesday 14 February at the ITF offices in London at 12:00 GMT. The seeds are based on the new ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking of 6 February.

The four seeded nations in the World Group Play-offs are:

USA (1), Belgium (2), Spain (3), Australia (4)

Each of the seeds will be drawn against one of the following unseeded nations:

Germany, Japan, Slovak Republic, Ukraine

The four seeded nations in the World Group II Play-offs are:

France (1), Switzerland (2), Sweden (3), Argentina (4)

Each of the seeds will be drawn against one of the following unseeded nations:

Belarus, China, P.R., Great Britain, Slovenia

The 2012 World Group and World Group II play-offs will take place alongside the World Group semifinals on 21-22 April. In the semifinals, Russia will be at home to Serbia, and Czech Republic will be at home to Italy.

The draws for the 2012 Fed Cup World Group and World Group II play-offs will take place at the ITF office in London at 12:00 GMT on Tuesday 14 February. In the World Group play-offs, the four World Group first round losers, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Ukraine will be joined by the four World Group II first round winners, Australia, Japan, Slovak Republic and USA.

In the World Group II play-offs, the four World Group II first round losers, Belarus, France, Slovenia and Switzerland will be joined by the four Zone Group qualifiers, Argentina (Americas Zone Group I), China P.R. (Asia/Oceania Zone Group I), Great Britain and Sweden (Europe/Africa Zone Group I).

Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with 90 nations entered in 2012. The event was established in 1963 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ITF. The title sponsor is BNP Paribas, the Official Bank of Fed Cup. Adecco (Official HR Sponsor) and BoscoSport (Official Clothing Sponsor) are international sponsors, and Wilson Sporting Goods (Official Ball) is an international partner.
