UEFA confirmed its decision at its Executive Committee meeting in Ljubljana this week.
Jon Hestoy, Vice President of the Faroese Confederation of Sports and Olympic Committee said:
“This is tremendous news for the Faroe Islands and demonstrates our wider sporting ambition.
We have been a proud member of FIFA since 1988 and of UEFA since 1990 and, in this time, the professionalism of football on the islands has developed considerably, while our wider hosting infrastructure such as hotel capacity has also grown a great deal.
The Faroe Islands is a hugely ambitious, proud sporting nation and the decision by UEFA to award us the honour of staging the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championships is a reflection of our ambition.
The Faroe Islands Football Association is looking forward to working with UEFA to host a memorable tournament in 2021 (UEFA finals tournament).”
