By Tom Lloyd, Rabat, Morocco, May 18, 2018: Morocco 2026 is pleased to welcome the support of the iconic Lothar Matthäus, former captain of the German national team and winner of the 1990 FIFA World Cup (bid ambassador Lothar Matthäus).
Matthäus, a legend of world football, has expressed his delight in supporting Morocco 2026, promoting an authentic, inclusive and responsible FIFA World Cup bid.
Captain of West Germany at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Matthäus won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award in 1991, the European Player of the Year Award in 1990 and the German Footballer of the Year Award in both 1990 and 1999.
The iconic star played in five separate FIFA World Cups and four UEFA European Championships.
Lothar Matthäus said:

Matthäus joins a long list of ambassadors for Morocco 2026, already populated by the likes of Roberto Carlos, Mustapha Hadji, Medhi Benatia, El Hadji Diouf, and Daniel Amokachi.
