Kuala Lumpur, May 19, 2017: India’s historic road to hosting their first-ever FIFA event – the FIFA U-17 World Cup – was handed a major boost after all tickets released in the first phase in Kolkata were sold out in less than a day. Launched on Tuesday evening (local time), more than 17,000 tickets were sold by early Wednesday morning.
Home to one of the world’s most pulsating football derbies between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, also known as the Salt Lake stadium, will host a total of ten matches, including the all-important final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup on October 28.
The iconic stadium will also host matches in Group F, one match each in the Round of 16 and quarter-finals as well as the third place play-off.
Tickets to the prestigious tournament will be sold in four phases. Individual match tickets will be available from July 7 to July 21 in Phase 2. Phase 3 will start from July 21 to October 5, while Phase 4 will begin from October 6 until the final at full price.
The draw for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 will take place on July 7 in Mumbai.
