Dottin breaks into top 10 for first time, Stafanie Taylor moves closer to #1 batting ranking

Dhaka, ICC Media Release, Nov 27, 2011: West Indies’ Deandra Dottin has broken into the top ten of the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for batters for the first time after the 20-year-old from Barbados scored a career-best 95 against Pakistan in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2011 (WWCQ) at Mirpur on Saturday (Stafanie Taylor moves closer).

Dottin is now occupying seventh place in the table, which is topped by India’s Mithali Raj, but team-mate Stafanie Taylor is fast closing in on Mithali’s position.

The ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2011 and the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier Player of the Tournament, Stafanie Taylor is now just nine points away from displacing Mithali at the top of the table.

Taylor’s 325 runs during the tournament and ten wickets has also seen her cement her place at the top of the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for all-rounders, with Australia’s Lisa Sthalekar in second place.

In the batting rankings there has been plenty of movement due to the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2011 in Dhaka, Bangladesh with Sri Lanka’s 21-year-old Chamari Atapattu, who is now ranked 18th, after she scored 60 against South Africa in the third/fourth play-off at Fatullah, is now in the top 20 for the first time.

Outside of the top 20, Pakistan’s Javeria Wadood has gained two places to now occupy 21st, while Ireland’s Ceceila Joyce is now 22nd. South Africa’s opening batter Shandre Fritz continues to rise in the rankings and is now in 25th place, while WWCQ 2011 finalist Nain Abidi has leapt 19 places to now sit 31st.

In the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers, the table is still topped by India captain Jhulan Goswami and there has been no change in the top 10, albeit West Indies’ Anisa Mohammed, sitting in fifth, has improved her ratings points after taking seven wickets for 14 runs in the win against Pakistan in Mirpur.

These were the third best figures of all time by a woman in an ODI.

Beneath the top 10, West Indies’ Shanel Daley has broken into the top 20 for the first time, having risen five places to achieve her highest ranking to date of 18th. South Africa’s Shibnam Ismail has broken into the top 20 also for the first time, while just beneath her, Sri Lanka’s Chamani Seneviratna has gained four places to sit 22nd.

In the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for all-rounders, that is topped by Taylor, Sri Lanka’s Shashikala Siriwardena has dropped three places to now sit 12th, while her team-mate Suwini de Alwis has gained two places to now sit 19th. De Alwis shares the position with Pakistan captain and all-rounder Sana Mir, which is both players highest ranking to date.
