Pakistani Club to play in India

By Rashid Ali Siddiqui, Karachi – Pakistan, July 21, 2014: Pakistan’s Twenty20 cricket champions Lahore Lions will participate in ICC Champions League T20 tournament to be played in September this year.

Indian cricket board (BCCI) has formally invited Lahore Lions, confirmed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Lahore Lions will be led by former Pakistan T20 captain Muhammad Hafeez while other players include wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, Umer Akmal, openers Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shahzad and fast bowler Wahab Riaz and Aizaz Cheema.

It may be mentioned that Sialkot Stallions and Faisalabad Wolves have played in the last two Champions League T20 Championship but both failed to qualify for main rounds. The domestic champions of Twenty20 cricket of various countries are invited in the competition.

Due to strained political relations between two neighbouring countries, Indian board has not been inviting Pakistani players in the Indian Premier League for a many years.

PCB hoped that by inviting Pakistan’s domestic T20 champions, doors will be opened for the revival of bilateral cricket ties with India as both PCB and BCCI have agreed to play six bilateral series in future. —- By: Rashid Ali Siddiqui/Photo: PCB
