Denmark – Copenhagen, Oct 08, 2013: World Archery Championships in Belek, Antalya in Turkey are well over and the World of Archery is now targeting the next World Championships in 2015. The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen will play host of these championships and the preparations are well underway.
“Denmark has hosted in 2009 the Archery World Cup Final and the success of this event has motivated World Archery to allocate the World Archery Championships to Denmark. The success of the Danish team this week is going to help the LOC to have a positive start to their promotion of the event and we expect that they deliver their promise of a championship like never before,” says Tom DIELEN, Secretary General of World Archery.
The Danish archers had great sporting success in Belek last week. The Danes won the world championships in women’s recurve, in the men’s team compound (right photo) and got bronze medals in the women’s team recurve.
Archery has thus been in focus in Denmark this weekend and Danes are now looking forward to welcoming the World of Archery to Denmark.
“This is so great! We are experiencing a lot of positive attention on our sport in Denmark. And we are now looking forward to hosting the next World Archery Championships in 2015,” says Rolf LIND, President of World Archery Denmark.
“With the success of the 2009 Archery World Cup Final, Denmark knows what it takes to put on a world class archery event. By hosting the 2015 World Archery Championships we can also enhance the identity of the activities that World Archery runs and inspire the archers, the federations and the spectators,” says Lars LUNDOV, CEO, Sport Event Denmark that partners the event in 2015 together with the City of Copenhagen and Wonderful Copenhagen. And he explains how Denmark has promoted the hosting of the World Archery Championships by the statements:
• A Host City like never before
• A Qualification Round like never before
• A Final Round like never before
Copenhagen is a pulsating metropolitan capital with a heart beating for sports events and has staged several sports events in the very heart of the city such as the UCI Road World Championships 2011, the World Cup Final in Archery (bottom photo) and the IOC Session and Olympic Congress in 2009.
And Copenhagen has a harbour clean enough to swim in and provides a historical oasis that is constantly embracing the future – also when it comes to staging sports events.
Note:
The World Archery Championships will be featured in the old harbour district of Nyhavn, at a venue like never before. With a dramatic setting over water near the historic Royal Palace and Opera House, this will be a truly remarkable event showcasing the traditional aspects of archery in an innovative way. The venue will be lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and numerous bars, cafés and restaurants. Serving as a heritage harbour, Copenhagen’s canal is always packed with tourists, and is the perfect setting to display a unique event.
