Lausanne, June 28, 2013: FEI World Cup™ Dressage series and Final title sponsor Reem Acra is for the fourth consecutive year supporting the Best Athlete category of the FEI Awards.
The Reem Acra Best Athlete Award will go to the athlete (equine or human) or combination in any of the seven FEI disciplines that, over the past year, has demonstrated exceptional skill in the arena and taken the sport to a new level.
Speaking of the award, Reem Acra, the world-famous fashion designer who has dressed global icons of style such as Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles and Catherine Zeta-Jones, said:
“It was without any hesitation that I agreed to support the FEI’s Best Athlete Award again. My involvement in the FEI World Cup™ Dressage series has reinforced my belief that it takes a lot more than talent to reach the top. Behind every trophy, there are years and years of total commitment to the partnership between humans and horses that makes equestrian sport so special.
“I am very proud that, through the FEI Awards, my name has been associated with those of Edward Gal and Totilas, Adelinde Cornelissen and Michael Jung and I really look forward to seeing who will be the recipient of the Reem Acra Best Athlete Award 2013.”
German Eventing rider Michael Jung was the winner of last year’s Reem Acra Best Athlete Award. On 31 July, the traditional closing date for FEI Awards nominations, Jung – for whom the FEI had already received hundreds of nominations – claimed individual gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games and contributed to Team Germany’s gold medal win. In doing so, he set a new record in equestrian sport – on the day he turned thirty – by becoming the first rider to simultaneously hold European, World and Olympic championship titles.
