Doha – Qatar, Dec 07 The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), the not-for-profit institution that specialises in sport security and integrity, has today unveiled the ICSS Journal – a new niche publication that will explore emerging issues and challenges impacting the securing of major international sporting events.
As part of the ICSS’s commitment to share knowledge and help governments and international federations deliver safe and secure major sport events, the new journal will examine emerging themes in sport, security, economics and integrity.
The publication, which will include articles from a range of experts currently operating in the world of sport, safety, security and integrity, will be distributed around the world to leading organisations, international federations, governments and corporations involved in the delivery of major international sporting events and integrity-related projects.
Articles featured in the first edition of the ICSS Journal include: “Risk factors for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ and Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games”, “The growth of international betting and the threats from organised crime” and “The Sochi 2014 Winter Games: Can they do it alone?”.
Speaking at a launch event in Doha, Mohammed Hanzab (President of ICSS) said: “We are proud to have played an active role in the establishment of leading research in the field of sport safety, security and integrity and welcome sharing knowledge and best practice by publishing the first journal of this kind in the world.”
“We all know that global challenges require a global commitment. The global challenges related to sport and the threats the industry is facing make the need to share knowledge even more important”.
Dr. Shaun McCarthy (Director, Research & Knowledge Gathering at the ICSS) said: “With major international sporting events now attracting significant media interest from around the world and the need to safeguard athletes, the public and the national sovereignty of host nations, there was a clear requirement to develop an authoritative publication in the world of sport security, safety and integrity to support and share knowledge between major event organisers and integrity practitioners.”
In order to drive new thinking in this area, the ICSS Journal will also include thought-provoking opinion and research from experts and practitioners outside the world of sport.
In his foreword to the first edition of the ICSS Journal, former Secretary General of NATO, Baron Robertson of Port Ellen, said: “There is now a great need to develop and share knowledge – and deploy it to maximum effect.
