Rimako Takeuchi receives FIG Medal of Recognition

TOKYO (JPN), FIG Office, October 15, 2011: Rimako Takeuchi receives FIG Medal (JPN), official photographer of the 43rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, cut an emotional figure on Friday as she received the FIG’s Medal of Recognition in honour of her 30 years’ work in the field of gymnastics.The ceremony took place in front of the crowd at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium shortly before the start of the Women’s Individual All-around Final, in which USA’s Jordyn Wieber would emerge triumphant two hours later.

The Japanese photographer has travelled the world since the 1980s following the most prestigious gymnastic events. Her talent is widely recognised in her profession and has served to shed a light on the sport to the benefit of thousands of lovers of gymnastics. Rimako has had several illustrated books published and her most recent, which came out just a few months ago, is focused on rhythmic gymnastics, a discipline she particularly enjoys.

The Medal of Recognition was presented by the President of the FIG, Prof. Bruno Grandi (ITA) and Mrs Slava Corn (CAN), Vice-President and Head of Media for the International Gymnastics Federation. Both expressed their wish to honour Rimako in front of the fans in Tokyo, her home city.
