LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, February 28, 2012: The FIG relates decisions taken by its Executive Committee during its first ordinary meeting of the year, February 22-24, at the Federation’s Head Office in Lausanne 5th Aerobic Gymnastics.
President Grandi began the meeting with the inauguration of the FIG’s new website, the latest version of a site that has been running since 5 May 1999. The look of the re-launched site’s home page and its editorial content are based on the We Are Gymnastics! concept.
During his recent visit to the Norwegian gymnastics federation, the FIG president accepted the candidature of the City of Tonsberg and the Municipality of Stokke to organise the third edition of the World Gym For Life Challenge in 2017. Their candidature must yet be ratified by the FIG council in May in St Petersburg (RUS).
For the first time since the rule governing the classification of the most deserving federations (according to respect of deadlines, participation, initiative) was put into effect, the Executive has distributed a total of CHF 50,000 to the top five federations for 2011, appearing in the following order: 1) Russia; 2) Germany; 3) France; 4) Japan; 5) Great Britain.
The 2011 accounts were unanimously accepted. The quadrennial financial plan for 2013-2016 was discussed and will be reviewed by the Council before being presented for approval at the 2012 FIG Congress in Cancun (MEX).
The following changes of nationality have been validated: Judith Hauser (RG) from HUN to GER; Andrew Smith (ART) from GBR to IRL; Eddie Penev (ART) from BUL to USA; Jessica Dowling (ART) from NED to CAN.
To elect the members of the Athletes’ Commission, the FIG Executive Committee will propose to the Council that it carries out this election at the time of the next World Championships after the year of the Olympic Games for Olympic disciplines, and at the time of the World Games for the other disciplines.
A major simplification of the “Tie Breaking” rule will be submitted at the next FIG Council.
Members decided to establish the Order of the FIG, an honorary title which will reward individuals who have made a telling contribution to the life of the FIG.
The organigram detailing the internal organisation of the FIG has been approved.
The Accreditations Rules was unveiled and completed with the arrangements for access to the FIG Council and to the FIG Congress. The regulations regarding Development and the Allocation of Apparatus were also revised.
The arrangements governing the organisation of the World Cups were also reviewed. The 2011 regulation for the Challenge Cup in Artistic by apparatus, as well as the World Cup in Rhythmic, Trampoline, Tumbling, Aerobic and Acrobatic, was renewed for 2012. The regulation for the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup’s individual All Around competitions, covering the period 2012-13, will be reviewed subsequently.
The procedure for allocating FIG events has been modified. The Executive looked in particular at the distribution of the costs and involved the host cities in this process.
The Executive issued the “wild cards” provided for the host country and continents, and validated the list of gymnasts who have fulfilled the conditions for participation at the London 2012 Olympic Games, with the exception of those places allocated by the Tripartite Commission. The respective NOCs must confirm their gymnasts before 7 March 2012 at the latest.
The Technical Presidents carried out the draw for the Olympic events in London.
The next FIG Executive Committee meeting will take place in St Petersburg (RUS) on 16 and 17 May 2012.
12th Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships, Sofia (BUL), June 1 – 3, 2012
5th Aerobic Gymnastics World Age Group Competitions, Sofia (BUL), May 29 – 31, 2012
LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, February 28, 2012: With definitive registration now completed for both the 12th Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships and the 5th World Age Group Competitions, the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation (BGF), the host body, has confirmed it is looking forward to welcoming delegates from a total of 42 different countries.
Federations from every continent will take part in these events including eight Pan-American nations, 22 from Europe and nine from Asia. South Africa is the only representative from Africa, while Australia and New Zealand will fly the flag for Oceania.
Absent in 2010 in Rodez (FRA), Chile, Colombia, Estonia, Turkey, Mongolia and India will return to compete in either the World Championships or the World Age Group Competitions in Aerobic Gymnastics at the Armeetz Arena in Sofia. Peru will participate for the first time in the WAGC. In total, 851 gymnasts are registered to compete in Sofia, with 385 lining up at the senior event and 466 in the Age Group categories.
After 2004, this is the Bulgarian Aerobic Community’s second time hosting the World Championships. The senior event will qualify gymnasts for the 9th World Games 2013 in Cali (COL). The deadline for nominative registration is April 25 for both events. Image © FIG
