Match officials announced for ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2011

Dubai, ICC Media Release: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the eight match officials announced who will stand in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2011 to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 14 to 25 November.

New Zealand’s Kathy Cross is the only female umpire officiating and will be alongside Emirates International Panel and Associate and Affiliate Panel Umpires.

Cross will be joining England’s Rob Bailey, Lakani Oala of Papua New Guinea, Sarika Prasad of Singapore, Enamul Houque Moni and Nadir Shah of Bangladesh, Ireland’s Richard Smith and Buddhi Pradhan of Nepal at the ten-team event.

The tournament presents an opportunity for four sides qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2013 and will be overseen by Tournament Referee, David Jukes. The 54-year-old Cross stood at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2009, in Sydney, Australia and is delighted at the prospect of travelling to Dhaka for the event.

“I’m really excited to be part of such a great team of match officials for the event. I’ve only worked with Sarika Prasad and Lakani Oala before but I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the team,” said the Wellington-based umpire.

“I’ve never been to the sub-continent so I’m really looking forward to seeing Bangladesh and I am certain the quality of cricket on display will be fantastic. It’s going to be a very competitive tournament I’m sure with 10 teams competing for just four places in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2013,” added Cross.

ICC Umpires and Referees Manager, Vince van der Bijl said: “We are delighted that Kathy Cross will be umpiring at the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier. She remains an excellent role model for aspiring women umpires and she showed her umpiring prowess at the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia in 2009.

“We are delighted that she is again umpiring in an international event along with umpires from the Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires and the Associate and Affiliate Panel of ICC Umpires.”
