PEAK goes global with FIBA…

WUHAN, CHINA/GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (FIBA) – Press Release: FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, and PEAK, a leading Chinese sportswear manufacturing company, have extended their partnership until 2016 it was announced on Saturday in Wuhan, China. PEAK has worked closely with FIBA since 2008, serving as footwear and apparel provider for FIBA tournaments in Asia. The new deal sees PEAK become a global partner of FIBA and footwear provider for all of its events worldwide (PEAK goes global FIBA).

PEAK CEO Jim Xu and FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann

The announcement was made at a press conference in Wuhan – site of the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship which concludes this weekend – and was welcomed by FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Patrick Baumann. “It’s particularly important to have Asian companies as strategic partners of FIBA given the strong popularity of the game in Asia, especially China,” he said. The extended and improved partnership gives FIBA a brand that shares its values and goals – a commitment to the sport of basketball and a dedication to both promote and grow the game.

“As well as the revenue and the financial input, it’s very important to have a brand that is committed to the sport of basketball because they’re working with us to promote the game,” Baumann added. “FIBA is going to be a strategic partner for PEAK who have chosen basketball as their lead sport.” For PEAK, the association with international basketball’s governing body enables it to continue growing at an impressive rate within China, while also building its brand beyond the Chinese borders.

“Clearly FIBA gives us credibility and helps build the brand outside of China,” said PEAK CEO Jim Xu. “Aligning ourselves with and working closely together with the world governing body of basketball is a smart long-term strategic move, not just for the exposure but for the other opportunities each can provide the other.”

Champion, another of FIBA’s global partners, remains apparel provider for all FIBA tournaments outside of Asia until 2016.
